This NORSOK standard defines the minimum functional requirements for design and construction of architectural components and equipment to be installed and used on offshore installations in the petroleum industry.

This standard is primarily applicable to fixed installations. The standard may also be used for mobile installations for which, however, other requirements may be applicable.

Main changes from the third edition to the fourth edition are in summary:

• inclusion of new operational experience feedback from recent projects;
• revision of the clause related to normative and informative references;
• revision of the clause related to common requirements, including certification, penetrations and tagging;
• revision of structural requirements related to hand- and guardrails;
• revision of the clause related to doors, including hinged doors, sliding doors, threshold heights, external doors, watertight doors and doors to HVDC converter modules;
• revision of the clause related to windows, including fire rating, thermal insulation, acoustic requirements, HTCC windows and wheel house windows;
• revision of the clause related to insulation, including insulation types, protective cover, fire insulation and acoustic cassettes;
• revision of the clause related to prefabricated wall systems, including structural reinforcement and louvered panels;
• revision of the clause related to floating floors, including water resistance and installation;
• revision of the clause related to floor finishes, including carpets, PVC, synthetic shock absorbent deck covering, and electrical insulation mats;
• revision of the clause related to raised access floor, including airflow panels and floor finishes/skirting;
• revision of the clause related to prefabricated bathrooms, including sanitary fixture, accessories, electrical and service shaft;
• revision of the clause related to provision stores, including general requirements, floors, walls and ceilings, shelves and refrigeration system;
• revision of the clause related to kitchen, catering and laundry equipment, including design and fabrication (plinth height) and plumbing requirements;
• revision of the clause related to furniture, equipment and accessories, including cabin furniture, shoe drying cabinets, curtains, production laboratory furniture and miscellaneous equipment/accessories;
• revision of the clause related signs, including general requirements, sign related to general information and orientation, platform ID signs;
• Annex A (normative): CDS-201, CDS-202 and CDS-203 are revised. CDS-205, CDS-206, CDS-207 and CDS-208 are withdrawn. Two new signs are added, CDS-209 and CDS-210.
