Description / Abstract: This specification covers the qualification and performance requirements for ornamentation that is coated with acrylic, urethane or a blend of acrylic and urethane 400 μm thick and used on the vehicle exterior. These emblems may be used as inserts or as stand-alone medallions. For emblems coated with a thicker layering of acrylic, reference GMW16585.

Material Description.

General Construction. This ornamentation usually consists of an aluminum insert bonded into a bezel which in turn is bonded or mechanically attached to the vehicle. The bezel should not be chrome plated to reduce the chance of corrosion occurring. Styling requirements determine whether the acrylic material will be transparent, translucent or opaque. Normally, decorative coatings are applied to the aluminum. These coatings may be inks or paints. Specific construction and appearance requirements need to be described on the part drawing.
