Description / Abstract: Introduction

Purpose. This standard contains the general requirements and associated tests regarding exhaust system isolators. Exhaust system isolators are used to attach the exhaust system to the vehicle and provide isolation from exhaust system structure borne noise and vibration.

Applicability. Materials covered by this specification are divided into three (3) types.

Type A. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber (M-class) for 125 °C continuous temperatures.

Type B. Vinyl Methyl Silicone (VMQ) for 150 °C continuous temperatures.

Type C. Drawing defined (e.g., using SAE J200 or ASTM D2000 line callout).
