This standard is prepared by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineering (SCTE)Digital Video Subcommittee (DVS) to make in-band data broadcasting available as an SCTEstandard. This document defines the characteristics and normative specifications for the signalingof data broadcast.

This standard applies extensions, modifications, and constraints to the syntax and semantics for astandard set of tables providing the data necessary for receivers to discover and access dataservices offered on cable. The data transmission infrastructure is compatible with digitalmultiplex bit streams constructed in accordance with ISO/IEC 13818-1 (MPEG-2 Systems). Thedocument also specifies the mechanisms necessary to allow applications to be associated withdata referenced by a PID.
