The US Environmental Protection Agency and NSF International are jointly implementing an Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program for technologies designed to protect ground and surface waters used as sources for drinking water. The Water Quality Protection Center covers a wide range of source water protection technologies in five areas of focus. Protocols and testing have been developed and testing is underway for technologies addressing wet weather flow, watershed protection, urban infrastructure rehabilitation, ship ballast water treatment and decentralized wastewater treatment technologies. Almost 20 protocols have been prepared, and testing of more than 30 technologies has been, or is being, conducted in almost all of the technology areas.
