By the time of The American Society of Refrigerating Engineers(ASRE) first meeting in 1905, the artificial ice rink industry hadalready established many of the basic design principles found in todaysmultipurpose sports and entertainment facilities. By then, almost 30years had passed since 1876, when the first mechanically refrigeratedice rink (The Glaciarium) was opened by Prof. John Gamgee atChelsea in Charing Cross, London.
