Under ASHRAE 1343-RP, methods have been developed to standardize testing and reporting of heat gain from nine types of medical imaging systems. Under Phase II of this research, tables of data will be developed to assist engineers in designing HVAC systems to serve imaging equipment. One table will be developed to provide heat gain and energy use by complete systems based on field tests of operating systems. A second set of tables will be developed with the assistance of the manufacturers to indicate typical heat gain and energy use by system components. These tables will help engineers to estimate cooling loads during preliminary design as well as during room by room design. The methods will result in standardized and consistent heat gain data. The data will be useful for modeling energy use in healthcare buildings and for developing energy performance ratings.
