With 36% of U.S. schools using portable classrooms, studies have shown many opportunities exist to improve energy performance as well as boost academic performance in these classrooms. This article explains a study of three classrooms in a range of climates, and the improvements that resulted in as much $1,900 in annual savings for one classroom. Technologies include skylights, daylighting controls, controls integration, roof and plenum insulation, and reducing the auxiliary strip heat on heat pumps.
