Thirty-five years ago, prompted by the global energy crisis, ASHRAE developed and publish energy standard 90 (later to be split into 90.1 and 90.2). The standard has undergone many changes since then. This article traces the roots of Standard 90.1 from the 1970s to the changes in 2010 and beyond.
