The news is full of headlines such as School to Close Again due to Mold,¹ Mold Forces NJ School to Close for Rest of Classes,² Washoe Widens Probe on School Mold,³ or Moldy Madison School Will Remain Closed Thursday.⁴ Often, the mechanical systems or the envelope is blamed for moldy conditions. However, the schools operation and maintenance plays a significant role in achieving and maintaining the indoor environment. Effective operation and maintenance starts at project inception and not at facility completion.
