Head of the Class For No GHG-School
The Commission Scolaire des Grandes Seigneuries, a school board located in Qubec, Canada, wanted a building with no greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In November 2002, its goal was achieved with the cole du Tournant, an alternative school for exdropouts. Exceeding all expectations, the school is GHG-free and is the most energy-effi cient school in the province of Qubec. This school is 80% more efficient than a similar school built according to the Model National Energy Code for Building (MNECB). The MNECB is the energy code used in Canada. ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, was used as the model to develop the MNECB.Citation: ASHRAE Journal, vol. 48, no. 5, May 2006
