1997 ASHRAE Technology Awards: Upgrading the Steam and Cooling Systems at a Machine Tool Manufacturing Complex
A short description of the upgrading of the heating and cooling systems for the 1.5 million ft (139 350 m) headquarters complex of Milacron Inc., a machine tool manufacturer in Cincinnati. Innovative techniques used in the project include 1) co-firing waste with coal to reduce costs for steam production and waste disposal, 2) consolidating chilled water production to reduce operation and maintenance costs, 3) reducing the use of CFC refrigerants, use of some second-hand equipment to save on capital costs and time.
