CH-93-01-2 -- Understanding the Means by Which Your Equipment is Attached
Several recent publications have addressed fastening performance of mechanical anchors. Examines these state-of-the-art documents and explains the features, benefits, and disadvantages of various types of fasteners on the market. Differentiates between light-, medium-, and heavy-duty applications for post-applied anchors, ranging from powder-actuated fasteners to undercut and adhesive anchors. Seismic experience and recommendations for various ASHRAE-type applications are examined. Simplified methods for determining the load capacity of multiple anchor base plates with less than minimum spacing or edge distances are explained according to the latest methods from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and Comite Euro-International du Beton (CEB). Recent test data regarding the distribution of shear-loads in multiple-anchor base plates are also discussed.
