This standard applies to automotive fuel methanol (M85) that contains 15% unleaded gasoline. It is intended for use in automotive engines under a wide range of climatic conditions.

The fuel methanol shall only be used in equipment specifically designed for its use. Some fuel systems may not be fully compatible with fuel produced to this standard. Users are advised to consult the motor vehicle owner's manual or the equipment manufacturer. Automotive engines capable of operating on fuel methanol that meets this standard are typically designed to operate within a percentage-methanol range of 85% to 0% by volume.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous.
